July 2000 I arrived here because somebody saw a reference to my time at Windsor school on the web site that I have created on my father's RAF career. Some of my recollections are given at: http://ourworld.compuserve.com/homepages/PPorter1/wahn.htm I would be happy to hear from anyone who was there around the same time that I was. I'm sorry that I couldn't attend the June Reunion but I am currently living in California and heard about it too late to be there. I was a House Prefect at Hillsborough during my time at Hamm and left to work in the British Aircraft Industry after taking my "O" levels in 1956. Pete Porter (H 55-56) PPorter1@compuserve.com |

July 2000 Just to let you know what's happened since the reunion on 24 June. Members who attended have been busy spreading the word, the request for information about the Windsor Society has been unprecedented - up from an average of 5-6 requests a week to 27 in the past two weeks. If you're not yet a member, you can receive an information pack by completing the form on the 'How to Join' page. Membership costs just £6 a year (plus a £2 joining fee) for which you receive newsletters, a 36 page magazine, full listing of the society's 1500 members (including addresses, phone numbers etc.) plus information about activities and events. There's never been a better time to join the Windsor Society; your school friends are waiting to hear from you. You might even find your best friend lives just around the corner - stranger things have happened!!) David Pipes (S 65-67) david@windsorsociety.freeserve.co.uk |

July 2000 Hi! I was in Edinburgh House from the age of 14-16 in 1974-76. I'd be glad to hear from anyone that knew me. Thanks. Some of my friends included Lorraine Winder, Debbie Hughes, Jill Cuthbertson and Carol Jones (who went on to become my bridesmaid). My father was stationed at RAF Laarbruch at the time. Before being posted back to RAF Finningley in '76. I worked in the Airmens Mess where I met my husband (a chef) and have been happily married to him for nearly 23 years. I have two sons, Scott (16) and Callum (11 going on 20!) I now live in Doncaster, Sth Yorks. Pat Innes (E 74-76) innesbc@innesbc.screaming.net |

July 2000 Whoops dept....current membership of the Windsor Society is nearer 1700 than the 1500 I quoted above - I hadn't added in this year's new members. With the Millennium Reunion over, we're planning what to do next; one idea is a series of regional get togethers. The 'Great Windsor Picnic' has been suggested (perhaps we could hold a few around the UK) or would an indoors meeting be preferable? I like the picnic idea as all our families could meet at very low cost. The weather would be a gamble but that shouldn't dampen the Windsor Spirit. Please let me know. July 2000 I just wanted to be maybe the last one to say how much I enjoyed the reunion. Although I went alone and didn't actually meet any old friends there I had a great time with the "netheads". It was nice to see some of the people that I met at Trafalgar Square last year too and I would say to anyone thinking about going to the next one to "just do it". Would also like to add my thanks to the committee for their hard work organising the event and to David for the webcam pics (yes thats me blowing kisses to Claire & Julie in Australia) also to say that I am definately looking forward to the next one. (make it soon please) If anyone on the net is interested we may do a netmeet somewhere central (UK that is!)in the near future. Bill Craswell (C 62-65) BillC@btinternet.com See above, Bill - it might be sooner than you think...following the reunion we've had so much response from members I think the next year could be quite eventful. July 2000 I located John Moir via an email search engine and, between the two of us, we've been able to fill in most of the names to the 1956 Senior class photo I put on the Yahoo site. They appear there in message#794. If anyone can add to them just let me know. It should probably be moved to this site but I thought I'd wait until I had as many names as possible. It's great to be in contact after all these years! Pete Porter (H 55-56) PPorter1@compuserve.com |

July 2000 Has anyone experienced difficulties reading the Visitors' Book? A problem has been reported in accessing pages from 1998-99 but it seems OK with IE 5.0 and NN 4.51. Could someone please check out the drop down menus and report back to me? Thanks. David Pipes (S 65-67) david@windsorsociety.freeserve.co.uk Shortly before the reunion we were informed of the BBC's 'Search' campaign due to run throughout July. As a result, the Windsor Society has been interviewed by over twenty local radio stations throughout the UK with twenty new members joining since the beginning of the month. If you're not yet a member, please help us achieve our aim of 2000 members by the end of 2000 - we've less than 300 to go!! |

July 2000 So hacked off I couldn't make it to Newbury, despite telling some people I was going to be there! New e-mail address if anyone wants to write. I've seen some names over the past month or so and will be getting in touch (Yes, I remember you Ivan. And Cormac!). I have seen the name of Helen Rose mentioned as well; that brings back memories! July 2000 I'm afraid I did not actually attend the above school, however I did stay there for a brief spell on a football tour in what I believe was probably about 1980. Bizarrely enough I went to The Windsor Boy's School, Windsor (formerly Grammar School) and the teacher who was leading the tour (Gerry Bird) had attended your school in Hamm, and had also, I believe, met his wife there as she had attended the Girl's School. The last bit I'm not quite 100% sure of but Gerry definitely went there. If anyone has any vague memories of this visit it may be reinforced by one of the two following things:- 1) We were nearly all killed when the other teacher on the tour decided to Ausfahrt at about 80mph in a transit minibus, went off the road, mounted a banking and carried on over into the entrance to the motorway where we collided with a lorry. Needless to say the vehicle was written off and we lost our match when we eventually got there! 2) In a somewhat juvenile manner (that after all is what we were!) both parties made every attempt to prove to each other which particular W.B.S was the hardest. ...oh those heady days of youth. Anyway, sorry to ramble on in the finest tradition of Ronnie Corbett but I discovered your site whilst looking for entertainment in the Windsor area (I'm still a Windsorian) and thought I'd furnish you with my tedious reminiscences, wondering if anyone out there remembered the trip. Good day! Tony Brooke tonyb@hilholhal.ndo.co.uk |

July 2000 Thanks to the committee and everyone else for putting on a fine re-union (yet again). Filled a few gaps in my memory and a few gaps for other people also. Many thanks also to Liz for the lift. Doesn't Lucozade work wonders. Also can anyone help me? Any help tracking down Bill Ponting would be very much appreciated. I believe his dad was in the RAF. I also believe Bill himself may have joined. I did five years in the RAF myself as an Air Photography Operator (11 Sqdn, 23 Sqdn, 39 Sqdn and 43 Sqdn). I did come across the name W. Ponting in official paperwork once, but no RAF Station Address to go with it. Also does anybody want to admit being members of the model railway club, during my time 67 - 68 (it was situated in the bowels of Marlborough) I have some photo's to blackmail people with. My only interest in trains now, is whether they get me to where I am going on time. Well that's all, Robin. Robin Ellwood (M 67-68) robin_ellwood@hotmail.com |

July 2000 Hi I attended WGS in 71/2 with my sister Maxine (Gardner) we were in Hillsbrough House. My first dorm was 312 with Rachel Le Quesne, Pia Hudson, Jackie Morgan, Rhona Christiansen, Julia Bowell and I have wondered for a long time what happened to those girls. If they access this site or you know where they are please get them to make contact. The matron at that time was Matron Little and Miss Ramsey was the House Mistress. Other teachers I remember were Miss Hunt (PE), Miss McDade and Miss Whatmough (science) I could go on for hours with memories.... Dawn Gold (H 71-72) dawnermgold@madasafish.com |
