August 2001 Hi there. Just found this site after a recent visit to Germany, tried to find the school, but it was too dark, and, as I was just a spotty 1st year, couldn't recognise the place that well. The girls that I remember in my dorm were Linda Berry and Lynne Harvey, unfortunately, can't remember the other names. Babs Odhams was Head Girl of the School, and also Head Girl of Sandringham. Our matron was Ms Geisefeld, (excuse spelling). My sister, Marilyn Jones, was also there at the same time, with Linda Blackburn, Babs Evans (& sister Pat), Paula Wilcox, but to name a few. My eldest sister had also been a pupil there, Carol, but she'd left before I started there. I would love to hear from anyone who remembers any of us, (especially the above-mentioned people). Rosemary (Rose) Jones (S 68-?) rosemarythomas@lineone.net |

August 2001 I found this site today, purely by chance, and feel like a kid again - it's great. I recognise a few of the names, and if you don't remember me, then maybe you will remember my brother Mark 'Marcus' Shrives (Marlboro'Hse). To Jimmy Alger, lost touch with you after our 'Kent School' reunion, great to find you again. Noddy Holder, I remember you very well. I remember well the DAP episode (re. Andy Mullin's message), Dave Padbury was one funny guy, certainly made your sides ache. On the WGS school prefect photo - No.7 is Janet 'Scottie' Robertson and No.11 I feel sure is Michelle Scriven. If my name is familiar, drop me a line - please. Dawn Penn (nee Shrives) (S 76-79) dawn.penn@emhartglass.com |

August 2001 Hi there, This is quite scary, all these familiar names though I suspect that the faces may have changed a little!!! Hello to anyone who may remember me, now a little older, wiser, married with 2 kids. Eventually trained to be a teacher like my dad who taught at the boys school - yes, that's right - Gaffer Maxwell. Love to hear from anyone sane and normal..... Especially Suzie Barlow, Sue-Ann Heather, Jayne Rowlett, to name but a few. Rose Jones (Maxwell) (H 72-76) rosejones1uk@yahoo.co.uk |

August 2001 Wow. I can't believe how addictive this is. I've just been reading the message board and there in May 99 is a message from Tony Fox. I remember him as I think he was my form teacher. He was a top bloke, played Jethro Tull to us for music if I remember rightly. This is scary stuff! Ian Richardson (H 72-74) Richardson.I@pg.com |

August 2001 Just found this site. A really spooky blast from the past. Don't recognise too many names at the moment but I'm sure it'll all come back to me. I left shortly after doing my first year and went to G.S.H. The only name I recognise was Paddy Ferris. Anybody remember Frank Cookson, Paul Hewitt and Andy Warwick. I'm sure more will come filtering back to me...I've just remembered that Mr.Fox was my form teacher. Was anbody else in 1AF at that time? Oh no! I think that my mother may still have photos. I think I need to stop now before I get carried away with all this nostalgia stuff. It wasn't really that good was it? Okay maybe it was or we just remember the good bits. August 2001 My first message from yesterday seems to have disappeared into the ether. I mentioned how strange it felt seeing this site and especially the pictures of the schools. I only spent a short time there, but I think it's safe to say that it had a major impact on my life. I didn't seem to be able to remember very much and then I saw the odd name that triggered off many more. I recognised the name of Patrick Ferris and this was a prompt for following....Andrew Warwick, Frank Cookson and Paul Hewitt. Then there was Tony Fox a memorable teacher and of course I then saw the name of "Hayden Jones" Housemaster, a frightening man when you're 12. I'm sure there are others who can remember all this and much, much more! There was a message from a guy who mentioned the names of two likely lasses in the early 70's and then said no sniggering! I remember...and I nearly choked on my coffee when I read your message. A note to the ti_russell@hotmail.com were you 17/21st with a brother Dale and a sister Sherry? Greetings to all, I'll keep looking in to see if there are any more snippets that I recognise.P.S. It still feels really spooky! Ian Richardson (H 72-74) Richardson.I@pg.com As you can see, all three messages arrived, Ian. Strangely the one timed at 19.10:57 'dropped through the letter box' a few minutes after the one timed at 19.25:54 - perhaps it took a scenic route:-) DP. |

August 2001 Looking through the messages in the visitors book I have to ask, am I one of the oldest and one of the original students of WS? My number was H6. In the football team photo I am the one front row second from the right. The boy on my left is Sheppard who was also my room mate and deputy to me as head boy of Hillsborough. I was also a school prefect but I don't show on a photo because I didn't turn up due to some sport or other. Sorry headmaster (Mr. John Aspinall). Anyone know the whereabouts of the following:- Frauline Petzholt (matron) Sheppard, Quinn, Mitchison, Mr. Flower, Miss Butterworth, Brenda Smith (Sandringham), Margot Keen, Paddy Flynn, Dick Nunn. I will be adding a few photos of my own to the website in the near future. Robert Charles STOCKS (H 54-57) stocksie@xtra.co.nz |

August 2001 Hi I found this site about a year ago and I posted a message. I have been in contact with a few people that I remembered names and had put faces to but sadly some of you have either vapourised or your e-mail addresses have changed. Denise Fletcher for one! This time I found some new names that are a little familiar, and one or two that really deafened me with bells a ringing (worse than revs!) Elaine Stonehouse - I tried e-mailing you and got a system error reply! Please contact me so that we can catch up a little. Lynn (Abbo) Aberdeen - What are you up to now? Sue Spinks, Carole Buchannan I have a great photo of the hockey 1st XL (black and white of course) which I WILL get around to scanning in and posting to the site organisers so that they can show the world! Hey and if anyone does happen to remember me I'm always pleased to chew the fat about old times! Dawn Clampin (nee Bradley) (C 73-77) clampin@tesco.net |

August 2001 Well I didn't realy expect anyone to remember me, and I'm sorry but the old memory is terrible Dave and Karl your names don't ring any bells at all to me..... I'm sure the odd incident or two if you recall any may jog my memory though! Here are few that occurred to me since happening on this site! Cool English teacher by the name of Backhouse! Cool Maths teacher Stephens or Stevens (also ran the Sub Aqua club!) ... always remember my Sin/Tan/Cos signs from the acronym All Stevens Teach Crap! Guy called Johno .... Yorkshire lad and fellow Leeds fan and crafty smoker also in Balmoral Kim Fletcher, Jonathan Webster and myself getting on stage and giving a rendition of the Munumanu muppet song at a social Those letters that we used to exchange with our girlfriends down the road, via the 6th formers, plastered with acronyms some of which were downright obscene ... hee! hee! Taking a keen interest in life saving swimming ..... mixed activity ..... got all my awards!! Rambling club .... also mixed activity ..... Lynne Brice was who made it atractive for me (my first true love and not forgotten!)... and I'm still a keen hill walker to this day too .... even did a stint in mountain rescue at one point! Duke of Edinborough Award .... that too was mixed ..... was there a pattern I wonder !!? I seem to remember that Balmoral were short of prefects and so I had the dubious title of being the most promoted and demoted ...... ah those teenage years where you discover so much of what is good and bad for you and generaly gets you into trouble ..... housemaster Donovan was usualy on my case! Pop Carey ...... someone else mentions him too The first time I took someones advice on the "swig this half bottle of Kellergeister and shake your head like mad for 5 minutes" ........ boy was I sick ..... and all over the Deputy housemasters window sill from my dorm window above ...... more trouble! Small guy called Dave King, also from Balmoral ... stayed with him for a half term great laugh with him and his folks! ..... I stop now before it gets boring!!! Met up with Sue Wilson a few times in the North East in the mid/late 80's, though lost touch when we moved south, love to hear from her or her sister Julie. Anyone heard from Rachael O'Mara, lost touch when she went back to the UK to attend the 6th Form College, heard she'd joined the Army. Remember losts of faces though can't remember all the names. August 2001 Hi I've just found the site and have asked to join the society. I was a Balmoral between approx. 54 & 58 when Mr Tovey was Housemaster and Mr Barnes was assistant Housemaster. I've been wandering through the e mails and see an old one from Joe Duffield who unless my memory is letting me down, and it certainly does on a regular basis, think that he taught me maths for the whole time I was there in 1b,2b,3b etc. I still remember the terror of the first 5 minutes of the lesson when he walked in room shouting 'one to ten! 'and asked us mental arithmetic questions. I was in a dorm with Bill Aspinal ,the Head Master's son, Ian Jordan who seemed to be in all of the junior school teams, BernardGrimshaw from Manchester and Charlie Benham. Has any one heard from any of them. For the record I now live in Leicester and work for jessops the camera people. Incidentally I do remember Ralph Czumaj (sorry for the spelling but I haven,t found out how to get back to the letters without having to start again). Ian Kennedy (B 54-58) ia_kennedy@lineone.net |
